Sea Sessions is a surf & music festival held in the town of Bundoran in Donegal in the North of Ireland.
The festival is held over three days with options to camp or not camp. My friends and I decided we would fully embrace the festival spirit and opted to go camping. The weekend was a complete wash out making our decision to camp a little less appealing but it was still good fun none the less (thanks to our double skinned tent anyway!).
Honestly, the festival is quite small in comparison to some others that I have been to. There aren’t as many food stalls (or stalls in general) and there were only two stages for music during the festival. This meant the selection was small but it also made the chances of acts we liked clashing less likely (which is a big problem with bigger festivals with multiple stages). The line-up itself seemed slightly random as I found the genres were quite conflicting but at least that meant there was something for everyone at one stage or another! The surfing and BMX/Skate boarding were a really nice touch. Because it was during the Euro’s they had a tent dedicated to playing the football. Being a girl this usually wouldn’t tickle my fancy but the atmosphere at the tent was great and it was especially good having somewhere to watch the Ireland VS France match.
Bundoran is a really nice spot and the upside of the event taking place in a town means you can go into hotels/bars for food and drink during the day. This was an extra plus due to the bad weather as it gave us a safe haven to sit in comfort. Although the weather wasn’t permitting it is still a beautiful sea side destination and the views driving to and from were absolutely beautiful. The rolling mountains along the way were stunning no matter what the weather!
Overall it is a really great festival and definitely a great one to go to if you have never been to a festival before as its size is nice and not too overwhelming. The camping was great facilities wise and the decent drainage of a GAA pitch meant it held up well in the weather. It was a really enjoyable weekend and the people were absolutely lovely. Given the chance I would definitely go again ☺
