Home Is Where The Heart Is

We in Ireland have a saying ‘Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin*’ which roughly translates to there’s no place like home.. and I couldn’t agree more!
I have been definitely bitten by the travel bug in the last few years and I am constantly itching to plan my next trip away – but every so often I have to remind myself to take a step back and appreciate what is on my front doorstep. The pictures below are from a park that I live beside and walk past every single day, and very rarely (basically the day I took this pictures!) I stop to appreciate the beauty of them and how lucky I am. Many people feel there is nothing to offer in their homeplace and grow sick and tired of being ‘stuck’ in that place. You must remember that there are always people who would kill to be in the position that you are in and you don’t have it half as badly as you think you do.
Every country has its own natural beauty and there is nowhere you can relate to more in the world than the place that you come from . Every once and awhile you should stop trying to escape to somewhere else and take an adventure in your own back garden for a change instead.. ‘Is glas iad na cnoc i bhaf uainn’ the grass is always greener on the other side! I have been to all four corners of Ireland and each one is as beautiful as the next, the beaches are some of the most beautiful I have ever seen (weather permitting.. which is rare I must admit), we have the largest coastal drive in the world called ‘The Wild Atlantic Way’ and we have three cities in the top 5 friendliest cities in the world (Nabbing spot number 1, 3 and 4!). It doesn’t take flying across the world to appreciate pretty buildings, fountains and lakes when you have them right under your nose.. you are just forgetting to look!

Great read! I have to do this same thing all the time!
Plus, I’ve been bit by the travel bug as well and am scrounging around trying to find somewhere to run off to!
Fab Post!
I sometimes forget to do this with Scotland, probably because of the terrible weather we get too!
Wise words 🙂
Some excellent points! I agree about the beauties of your land–we just drove quite a lot of the Wild Atlantic Way last year–but your reminder about seeing the beauty in the backyard is also a good one!
Ireland is very beautiful indeed, I might be a bit luckier than others with how nice my back garden actually is.. 🙂
This is true Emily. Love what you have. 🙂
Love this post, thanks for the reminder! 🙂
Like you, I live in a beautiful area. Each morning I wake up with a smile. And yet, I still love to wander. I think it is genetic. 🙂 –Curt
Fabulous Post! I wish I had discovered your blog before I took my trip to Maynooth!
